SMC student Doug Kihn sat down recently to interview dance instructors Barbara Yeh and David Stockin from the local SOHO Dance LA school and studio, which Stockin notes “is the largest dance studio in Los Angeles.”
The duo specialize in teaching 1940’s-era Lindy Hop, and after their brief interview, they demonstrated a typical introductory dance lesson (See video.)
Stockin also specializes in both Salsa Dancing and Argentine tango, and after revealing that he grew up in Ridgecrest, CA “in the Mojave desert,” Stockin added that teaching dance gives him “a lot of joy, pleasure, and personal satisfaction.”
Barabara Yeh arrived from the Philippines at age twelve, and started dancing the Lindy Hop while in college. Both Yeh and Stockin now count 20 years’ experience in dance, and teach the Lindy Hop together every Sunday at the dance studio, “rain or shine,” says Yeh.
